Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion
MPlayer OS X ran OK, but it was slow. And also, the new technologies from Apple prevailed-such as Core Animation, Grand-Central Dispatch, even OpenCL-and pushed me to give them a try. So I started without even knowing how to program under Mac, came to know Xcode, Objective-C 2.0, Cocoa, and the Core family. Fix: when paused, display dimmed and Mac falls to sleep. Fix: video is wrongly decoded in some RealMedia files. Fix: the remaining time is wrong when playback speed is not 1x. Fix: the position of the play control always reset when app exits.
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.

After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.

MPlayer is multiplatform, and that allows you to use it on Windows, Mac and Linux. It supports MPEG/VOB, AVI, OGG, ASF/WMA/WMV, QT/MOV/MP4, Real Media or DivX. It can be used ti play VideoCD, SVCD or DVD too.
